Theoretical and Applied Climatology offers the latest and most significant developments from studies around the world in climate, atmosphere and meteorology. Along with its sister journal Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, they are continuations of Archives for Meteorology, Geophysics and Bioclimatology, Series A and B. These journals were originally founded in 1949 by W. Moerikhofer, of Davos, and F. Steinhauser, of Vienna. Theoretical and Applied Climatology covers climate modeling, climatic changes and climate forecasting, micro- to mesoclimate, applied meteorology as in agro- and forestmeteorology, biometeorology, building meteorology and atmospheric radiation problems as they relate to the biosphere; effects of anthropogenic and natural aerosols or gaseous trace constituents; hardware and software elements of meteorological measurements, including techniques of remote sensing, among other topics of current interest.There are no page charges for colour figures in this journal.

Theoretical and Applied Genetics publishes original research and review articles in all key areas of modern plant genetics, plant genomics and plant biotechnology. All work needs to have a clear genetic component and significant impact on plant breeding. Theoretical considerations are only accepted in combination with new experimental data and/or if they indicate a relevant application in plant genetics or breeding. Emphasizing the practical, the journal focuses on research into leading crop plants and articles presenting innovative approaches. Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics provides a forum for the cross-fertilization of ideas, tools and techniques across all disciplines in which fluid flow plays a role, such as: aeronautical sciences, geophysical and environmental sciences, life sciences and materials sciences. Of particular interest are papers that unravel complex flow physics through combined computational and experimental efforts or through a fundamental theoretical analysis that complements computational work. The journal publishes scholarly research papers, invited review articles, brief communications, letters and comments on previously published papers. It addresses scientists, engineers and applied mathematicians working in all fields concerned with fundamental aspects of fluid flow.

Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry links theoretical advances with the development of principles of chemical process control. Topics include the theory of chemical reactions; mechanisms and kinetics of reactions in gases, liquids, solids, and molecularly organized systems; reactivity and physicochemical principles of chemical process control; effect of physical factors on chemical reactions; and theoretical and physicochemical bases, principles, and methods for obtaining novel processes, substances, and materials. Theoretical and Mathematical Physics covers quantum field theory and theory of elementary particles, fundamental problems of nuclear physics, many-body problems and statistical physics, nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, and basic problems of gravitation theory. Theory and Decision is devoted to all aspects of decision-making, exploring research in psychology, management science, economics, the theory of games, statistics, operations research, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and analytical philosophy. Moreover, it addresses cross-fertilization among these disciplines. This journal draws special attention to experimentation in decision-making and its links to the cognitive sciences. The series Topics in Organometallic Chemistry presents critical overviews of research results in organometallic chemistry. As our understanding of organometallic structure, properties and mechanisms increases, new ways are opened for the design of organometallic compounds and reactions tailored to the needs of such diverse areas as organic synthesis, medical research, biology and materials science. Thus the scope of coverage includes a broad range of topics of pure and applied organometallic chemistry, where new breakthroughs are being achieved that are of significance to a larger scientific audience. The individual volumes of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry are thematic. Review articles are generally invited by the volume editors.

Topoi's main assumption is that philosophy is a lively, provocative, delightful activity, which constantly challenges our received views, relentlessly questions our inherited habits, painstakingly elaborates on how things could be different, in other stories, in counterfactual situations, in alternative possible worlds. Whatever its ideology, whether with the intent of uncovering a truer structure of reality or of soothing our anxiety, of exposing myths or of following them through, the outcome of philosophical activity is always the destabilizing, unsettling generation of doubts, of objections, of criticisms.

It follows that this activity is intrinsically a 'dialogue', that philosophy is first and foremost philosophical discussion, that it requires bringing out conflicting points of view, paying careful, sympathetic attention to their structure, and using this dialectic to articulate one's approach, to make it richer, more thoughtful, more open to variation and play. And it follows that the spirit which one brings to this activity must be one of tolerance, of always suspecting one's own blindness and consequently looking with unbiased eye in every corner, without fearing to pass a (fallible) judgment on what is there but also without failing to show interest and respect.

Topoi's structure is a direct expression of this view. To maximize discussion, we devote most or all of this issue to a single topic. And, since discussion is only interesting when it is conducted seriously and responsibly, we usually request the collaboration of a guest-editor, an expert who will identify contributors and interact with them in a constructive way. Because we do not feel tied to any definite philosophical theme (or set of them), we choose the topic with absolute freedom, looking for what is blossoming and thriving, occasionally betting on what might - partly through our attention - 'begin' to blossom and thrive. And because we do not want our structur, e to become our own straightjacket, we are open to contributions not fitting the 'topos', and do not rule out in principle the possibility of topic-less issues.
